Pattern of the Month Highlights

The Pokey Pincushion is something I love.  Here is why. Laura proposed we make a pattern for a pincushion. I was skeptical.  I had a pincushion. It was made by a dear relative that had passed away.  It was what I used.  Period.  But Laura has a way of encouraging.  So we designed a very simple pattern.  Oh, my goodness!  I love it!

I still use the sentimental pincushion by my sewing machine.  A place of honor.  But the Pokey Pincushion is so wonderfully easy and perfect in every way and I love, love, love the walnut shell stuffing.  So this pincushion sits on my ironing board.  Or I move it to the cutting table.  Or I move it to the side table when I’m hand sewing.  I never knew I needed another pincushion.  Now I want two more. I will play with color when I make them.  You might need one (or more) too and this pattern is affordable and so darn easy! BGQ1203, Pin Cushion Filling.

Holiday, Newest Demo & Exciting News…

I want to share some fabulous pictures Mrs. Jones shared with me.  Who is Mrs. Jones?  Why, it’s Laura, of course.  That is my nickname for her.  It’s really her formal name but in the casual northwest, it’s rare to be formal.  Somehow that makes it fun.  I know, I know; a nickname is supposed to shorten the name – as in Laura, La, Lau, no, no, doesn't work - BUT there is a definite ring to Mrs. Jones.  Maybe it’s because it’s a common name AND our dear Mrs. Jones is anything but!

A few facts about Mrs. Jones.  First of all, she is a great business partner.  You see, she is very good at detail.  I am not.  She is very good with numbers.  I am not.  She is consistent, reliable, and trustworthy.  Okay, I am all of those too.  I dunno, we are just a ying and yang combination and it works.

Check out how beautiful she sewed these bags as gifts for daughters Jen and Les.

On the left is an Atkinson Design titled "Zippy Strippy".  Both girls received a set for Christmas.  The purse on the right is for Leslie who is traveling and studying in England this quarter.  It's Amy Butler's "Frenchy Bag".

England Leslie at the airport modeling her new bags, sleeping pillow, and practical coat/boots.

Cookies During the holidays, cookie making with Brett (Jen's boyfriend), Jen and Les.

holiday1 A lovely spread at Laura's house.

holiday 2 Christmas dinner at Laura's house.

holiday 23 During the holidays, the Jones' family did a day trip to Seattle.  Here is a sight you might recognize if you live here or even just visit.

gum wall This is gum.  Loads and loads of gum.  Now if you think about it, you could get the heebee jeebies.  Germ city!  But as a whole, it's beautiful, like a quilt or abstract painting.  You'll find this down an alleyway near the Pike Place Market.

MAcy star  A beacon of light that is a long standing tradition at Macy's, downtown Seattle.  A tribute to the reason for the season.

On to other news.  We had a fabulous floor mat demo day at Parkland Parish Quilt Store in – you guessed it – Parkland.  Kathy, owner and new friend has run this store for seven years.  You must stop by if you are anywhere in the area.  First of all, it’s in an old Catholic Church so it exudes charm in every nook and cranny of the store.  Kathy carries a wonderful selection of quilting fabrics and notions.  You will definitely be inspired.  Here are some pictures of our day.

 PP1Darling!

PP2Love how they use the information box.

PP3Such a nice staff that works there.

PP4Great fabric and great windows.

PP5We arrive, set up, and throw floor mat samples all over the store.  Attention grabbing.

And the winner is….Sandra Peek!  She won the floor mat we made that day!  Congratulations to Sandra.  We’ll be finishing the mat this week and getting it mailed so we’ll share a picture before it goes on to Sandra.

NEWS FLASH! The boards may be going out to the sales reps for our new fabric line on January 24th or so.  Once that happens, we can start sharing the designs for our first fabric line titled “Little B’s Garden”, with Clothworks.  Our fingers are crossed!

Odds and Ends.  Laura and I made our plan for spring market in Salt Lake City.  We are very excited to be introducing a stained glass floor mat.  Also, I made a promise to create a “Tips and Tricks” section on the website and I haven’t forgotten.  I am working on it.  My writing class starts up again tomorrow.  I have two more quarters to go and I’ll be done.  I love it.  It keeps me writing above and beyond the blog.  It makes life a little crazy though!

Have fun this week and use this cold weather to inspire more time in front of the sewing machine.  Or in any way creative.
