Pattern of the Month Highlights

The Pokey Pincushion is something I love.  Here is why. Laura proposed we make a pattern for a pincushion. I was skeptical.  I had a pincushion. It was made by a dear relative that had passed away.  It was what I used.  Period.  But Laura has a way of encouraging.  So we designed a very simple pattern.  Oh, my goodness!  I love it!

I still use the sentimental pincushion by my sewing machine.  A place of honor.  But the Pokey Pincushion is so wonderfully easy and perfect in every way and I love, love, love the walnut shell stuffing.  So this pincushion sits on my ironing board.  Or I move it to the cutting table.  Or I move it to the side table when I’m hand sewing.  I never knew I needed another pincushion.  Now I want two more. I will play with color when I make them.  You might need one (or more) too and this pattern is affordable and so darn easy! BGQ1203, Pin Cushion Filling.

16 pair of Socks = 16 Sock Animals

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, Happy Kwanzaa. Happy New Year!  For our Christmas celebration I have been up to my ears in socks!

Have you seen the book titled Socks Appeal by Brenna Maloney? Oh my goodness, not only is it totally entertaining and funny to read, the sock projects are adorable!  I had decided to make six animals for my great nieces and nephews for Christmas.  I made the mistake of showing them to friends.  Everyone wanted one!  So my original six turned into sixteen before I screamed “Enough!”  After all, I have a house to decorate, presents to wrap, etc. etc.  Everything else was backing up while I made sock animals!  So I stopped just this morning and I am writing a hasty blog before rolling up my sleeves and getting to work on my very messy house.  Creativity is not neat!

Here are some of my sock creations:

 SocksBunny, Hamster and Baby Owl

 OctopusOctopus made from "toe socks".

Last week I promised a picture of our Christmas tree:

Next week I will share Laura’s spectacular homemade Christmas creations.  Shhhh!  I would have shared them now but she is worried her gift recipients might see pictures on the blog. Since mine were for kids, it wasn't an issue for me.  So for hers, you’ll have to wait.  She made some wonderful gifts!  I’ll see if I can get a picture of her tree too.  It's lovely.

In the meantime, thank you from both of us for this amazing year.  Our love and good wishes to all!
