Pattern of the Month Highlights

The Pokey Pincushion is something I love.  Here is why. Laura proposed we make a pattern for a pincushion. I was skeptical.  I had a pincushion. It was made by a dear relative that had passed away.  It was what I used.  Period.  But Laura has a way of encouraging.  So we designed a very simple pattern.  Oh, my goodness!  I love it!

I still use the sentimental pincushion by my sewing machine.  A place of honor.  But the Pokey Pincushion is so wonderfully easy and perfect in every way and I love, love, love the walnut shell stuffing.  So this pincushion sits on my ironing board.  Or I move it to the cutting table.  Or I move it to the side table when I’m hand sewing.  I never knew I needed another pincushion.  Now I want two more. I will play with color when I make them.  You might need one (or more) too and this pattern is affordable and so darn easy! BGQ1203, Pin Cushion Filling.

Weather and the Holiday Rush

Weather and the Holiday Rush

Good morning from the land of record rain, wind, lightening and thunder, flooding, and landslides.  We are thankful that everything is okay in our neck of the woods.

It’s been a doozy of a late fall for the northwest.  We had a wild week before Thanksgiving, and now we are now experiencing the “Pineapple Express” this week.  We had record rain totals in just about every nook and cranny of Western Washington.  Given that this is “Rainy Seattle” – you know it’s gotta be bad!  My heart goes out to those with flooded homes and homes affected by landslides.  It’s really devastating any time of year,  but at holiday time it hits especially hard.

We have had some sleepless nights but so far we are fine here.

The only picture I have taken of this wild weather is at our local park.  This is normally a lovely grassy area.  I do love that a little boy was playing in the water.  Note that he had a life vest on and his dad was nearby.

BPP The tree is in water and lots of debris.

We set up for Christmas last week and here are some pictures.

Laura and I are excited about a recent order of fabulous books from C & T Publishing.  I hope you have some of these titles on your Christmas list.  I would recommend every single one.

And finally, we have been making a Circle Time mat from the Clothwork fabric mentioned previously.  Here is a picture.  It’s going to be a part of a trunk show mailing tomorrow.

And our dear friends from Rockland are getting a High Chair Helper mat made from mostly their fabrics (with a little bit of Urban Landscapes by Kathy York for Clothworks in the form of stars - couldn’t resist adding in those bright pops of color!).  The glue is still drying on this so it shows – BUT it will dry clear!

Hope you are having some creative spark this week!  And remember to breathe deeply at this most busy of seasons!
