Pattern of the Month Highlights

The Pokey Pincushion is something I love.  Here is why. Laura proposed we make a pattern for a pincushion. I was skeptical.  I had a pincushion. It was made by a dear relative that had passed away.  It was what I used.  Period.  But Laura has a way of encouraging.  So we designed a very simple pattern.  Oh, my goodness!  I love it!

I still use the sentimental pincushion by my sewing machine.  A place of honor.  But the Pokey Pincushion is so wonderfully easy and perfect in every way and I love, love, love the walnut shell stuffing.  So this pincushion sits on my ironing board.  Or I move it to the cutting table.  Or I move it to the side table when I’m hand sewing.  I never knew I needed another pincushion.  Now I want two more. I will play with color when I make them.  You might need one (or more) too and this pattern is affordable and so darn easy! BGQ1203, Pin Cushion Filling.

A Couple of Details and Demo Day Delights

Details, details, it’s all in the details….right?

Well, yes.  I am sitting with a mini van in my garage.  I don’t drive a mini van.  In fact, yesterday was the very first time I had ever drove one that I can recall.  Now, I have nothing against mini vans EXCEPT that my car is in for service and they tell me they want to keep it over night.  Well, that’s like having to stay overnight in the hospital for people.  So my car is staying overnight because it’s sick.

Like the hospital, the longer you stay, the more expensive it is!  For a clog!  Now I guess I can thank my lucky stars that my car is clogged, not me!  Thinking arteries here not plumbing!  Although no clog is fun!  Ever!

Anyway, my car should be ready today.  It’s plugged up in the heating system and they are working hard to unplug it.  So I can stay warm.  It’s fall after all.  Winter is staring us down!  Brrrrr!  So the little (expensive) detail is this.  I used the wrong anti freeze in my car.  It only likes the brand that it was manufactured with.  Go figure!  How come no one told me that small detail?  I could have saved like $300 dollars or more (I hope ‘cause the bill isn’t done)…….gee, I wonder if I should call the guys on Car Talk…….?

Another detail.

Holiday food.  Are you getting excited for Thanksgiving like I am?  I can hardly wait!  I love the idea of family, good food, warm, toasty houses and new recipes to try.  So I am passing along a fun new recipe website I discovered through a friend.  Check this out…http://smittenkitchen.com.  I love the pictures, the wonderful combinations of food, and the way she writes about how she comes up with the details that make a recipe delicious!

I was in line purchasing a few items on Sunday with Dave.  I had to get a new wall clock. I dropped the old one changing the time when I was setting the clock. This was a week ago in the studio.  I was missing it!  We found a clock for a whoppin’ $6.99 and a big bin for my yogurt containers – I save all of them as containers for paint, glue, or anything else that I can think of.

Anyway, we picked the wrong check out line.  Or did we?  It was taking forever but did I mind?  No.  I was busy perusing the holiday idea magazines.  I actually bought one.  My dear Dave shook his head.  Why?  Because I’m sure he’s wondering how I’m going to get done what’s already on my plate BUT when the magazine ended up in the cart, he just smiled.  Lucky me to have a dear husband who tries very hard to understand my crazy, creative life!  I love reading “how to stuff “ because I can build on the details of someone else’s creativity and add my own spin.  It really is all in the details.

Demo Day!  Here are some great shots taken by Debbie, employee at a fabulous quilt store in Everett, Washington called The Needle and I.  We did a demo there last Saturday.  If you are ever in the area be sure to stop by and meet Georgia, store owner and host of our very fun event.

We had a blast!   We met some wonderful women (it goes without saying that all quilters are totally terrific!).  We shared floor mat details and ideas and those same wonderful women shared ideas with us, like Barbara!  And they were awesome gluers!  We had our give away mat done in no time! Thanks, Sharon and crew!   Stop by and shop at this fun store if you can!

WinnerAnd the winner of the fabulous bright Clothwork's Urban Landscapes Floor Mat is Vernita Olson! She was absolutely delightful and thrilled to be the winner!  Congratulations, Vernita!

Well, I’m off to see if I can check my car out of the hospital.  Wish me luck on the repair and the bill!
