A Mouse in the House
So all week long Laura was sure she could hear a mouse behind the refrigerator. She would call Jon in and nope, he couldn’t hear a thing. He’d leave and the noise would start up again. I was hearing about the mouse all week from Laura. But there was no mouse to be seen!
She found a chocolate wrapper in the laundry room, “Jon, there is a mouse!”
“Na, it’s probably an old wrapper!”
Laura just shook her head. Then Friday morning, both Jon and Laura were reading in the family room before Jon headed off to work and over in the corner, THERE HE WAS! A grey, furry, long tailed little creature! A MOUSE! Vindication for Laura!
Laura screamed! Jon jumped up and ran for a broom. Laura grabbed the first thing she could find, Jon’s shoes! Now to get that mouse out the door for good!
Jon scoots one way, Laura the other and they open the door to the front deck. Did you see their deck from last week’s blog? There is no deck!
So this furry, cute, frightened little mouse does what any smart, quick witted little mouse would do, he flies out the door! Yikes! He kinda sailed through the air and landed on a little piece of support beam, never to be seen again! Phew! The mouse is happy, Laura and Jon are happy and now Laura can be at peace as she heads to Minneapolis knowing that the little mouse won’t eat any more chocolate! She is sure he stole chocolate from her quilt group stash! That mouse is lucky he made it out alive! Of course she had to throw out the rest of the chocolate, because well, that's what you do when a mouse is around.
So, my week was no less calm. It was Prom week at the Sandbloom household. Although I had 30 dog leashes to make for Minneapolis (Laura cut and sewed the strips so I could assemble and sew), I spent pretty much all of Thursday and Friday readying for Prom. Thursday was a trip to Seattle with Chelsea for a haircut, assessories, and earrings - it was pure mother-daughter fun. Friday was cooking and chopping, and marinating food for our piece of the Prom celebration. More on that below.
So here is the daughter and Prom date Trent.

Chelsea had such a great time. They celebrated with 16 other classmates and had dinner at a fancy restaurant called the Metropolitan Grill. Then the actual party was at the Columbia Tower (one of the tallest buildings in Seattle) and our part in it was providing transportation to Seattle via Jon and Laura’s boat. Jon skippered, Laura and Dave were first mates and I did whatever they told me to do to help get the lines off the dock and get us underway. The kids all thought it was treat to ride a private boat to Seattle. They enjoyed snacks on the way over and cookies on the trip back (the snacks were my part and friend Sally provided the cookies) Jon, Dave, Laura and I then had dinner on the boat (my other contribution) while the kids were at their fancy dinner and the dance. It was so much more fun than riding the ferry for both the kids and the adults! We arrived back on the island in the dark but we had a very good captain keeping us safe (look at the view of the ferry from our boat on the way over- it was a beautiful day!). Thanks again Jon and Laura!

Saturday Dave set up a fountain we purchased last summer. He installed it by our back door. It’s located in the deep shade. We finally gave up on any serious plantings that would thrive, nothing ever worked! In the end, a fountain seemed like a very good idea. We did add a pot of moss because it needed something, so we hope the moss grows! The rushing sound of water is just fabulous. Here is a picture:
In the meantime, yes, Laura and I completed 30 leashes yesterday, and have started some aprons to wear for market. All the last minute details are getting tended to as we are down to the wire. Check out the pictures of leashes and apron parts.

So look for the next posting in about 10 days or so. I didn’t get the photos of the new patterns on the blog but I will post them when I get back.
Minneapolis here we come!
