Work = Rest this Monday!
Having a college senior is like a roller coaster ride, it couldn’t be more thrilling but after the ride you need to give your heart and body a little rest; Dave and I are both exhausted! Let me explain why.
Chelsea applied to four colleges, and heard from the 3rd and 4th choices almost right away last fall. There was initial excitement over that because in her words, “I’m goin’ to college!”
Her top two choices have been weighing down her shoulders for more than a month now that friends and fellow students have been hearing from this school and that. Throw in the Tolo dance with a group of 24 kids and 24 different opinions about what to do, where to eat, take pictures, etc. and that describes the countdown to Saturday. Chelsea is a planner and likes to have all her ducks in a row (and we are not talkin’ the University of Oregon here!).
So Monday, she gets an email from the University of Washington. Yes, the same school that is now in the sweet sixteen basketball tourney – Go Huskies! It’s about scholarship information but she hasn’t officially heard from U of W and it’s one of two top schools she wants desperately to go to! So she checks her online status – everything happens online these days. THEY HAVE REVIEWED HER APPLICATION! Yikes, it’s yes or no, what’s it going to be? Well, we were running for the mail every single day and finally on Thursday, I checked the mail and there it was! SHE’S IN!

Before she gets home I blow up U of W balloons – purchased for something else long ago and a lucky find in my rush to make a splash before she get’s home from school! I find the Husky song “Tequila” on YouTube. Now I know I shouldn’t be playing a song about alcohol but if you know the song, it’s played at every sporting game and it is a celebration song! I blared it on the computer – as loud as it would go over and over.
Grandmother's (Farmor's) Flowers
She flies down the driveway after seeing balloons EVERYWHERE and bursts into tears and the dancing and phone calling began. Her dad shows up not long after and he too begins the celebrating and I am sure the neighbors are thinking we had all gone crazy! It was so fun! We took her out for a quick dinner as she had to go photograph soccer players for the high school yearbook. What a day! Grandmother sent her beautiful purple and gold flowers on Friday to celebrate (picture above). Then Saturday was all about toe nails, fingernails, hair styling, make-up, bunches of girls, laughter, shy boys, more laughter, pictures galore by beaming parents and off they went via ferry to Seattle, to board a bus to travel around the city, have a wonderful dinner and dancing galore! Such is the life!

Chelsea and Me
Exhausting, but in the very best way possible!
If you are still with me after all of that, Laura and I both worked very hard on quilting this week, even though Leslie was home from the University of Oregon for spring break and Laura's daughter Jennifer moved to a single apartment (after living a couple of years with five girls) - big move! Jenn had help from her very nice boyfriend, Laura, Jon, and Leslie all day Saturday. I hear the apartment is adorable and that a floor mat making session is on their horizon that will add even more pizazz!
Here is a picture of Jumping Jax, made with Riley Blake fabrics; I was pattern testing the original in Sandy Gervais fabrics you saw in an earlier blog. What a fun, zippy little pattern it is!

Walking out of the studio this morning I took a picture of my roses. They look so healthy! Now, if only the deer don’t eat them all!
All in all, a week to remember! I hope this week is fun but a little more on the mild side! Have a great one!
