Art Class 101
I took an art class at my local art supply store yesterday. What a brain stretcher it was! I learned skills that will apply to quilt design, painting strategies, and it is so fun!
We began by purchasing three cool grey markers, one in each 30%, 70%, and 90% saturation. Then we did simple little studies inside and outside. At the end of the day we used our new found knowledge, worked on light brown paper and added a white pen for the brightest light. Here is mine; I was drawing the back alley behind the store; the enclosure for the garbage containers. Not a great subject but I had such a great time!

This morning I thought okay, we are making a log cabin quilt and it’s kind of boring so how can I see the pattern differently? Wow! It dolls up the pen and paper. I am going to use this technique to see lights and darks before adding the color from fabric choices. I started this morning and you can see how this will be terrific for reading design strength. It’s a work in progress but look. I used the 30% and 70% markers. So simple on this but imagine how it could help you if you are stuck!

I also want to share a few quilts I picked up from my dear friend Marybeth at White Lotus Quilting. She is so fabulous! This is Eagle Harbor Summer done up in Authentic by Sweet Water fabrics. Also Kit and Caboodle done up by American Jane’s newest collection. Aren’t they just terrific?

Eagle Harbor Summer (above) and Kit and Caboodle (below)- both patterns are available on our website!

We’ve had such incredible weather this winter. I was walking back to the house from my studio and the fog was just lifting off the water. The camera was in my hand so I had to take a picture.
Fog lifting off water - the old red cabin is on right.
I hope you are having a small taste of spring where you live. It is so uplifting. If not, close your eyes and think about it, we are getting so close! Quilt away and have a delightful week!
