Pattern of the Month Highlights

Introducing our newest pattern called Winslow Wallet. We know, we know, there are lots of wallets out there. What makes ours different? We tailored it exactly to what we need, a place for cash separate from credit cards and punch cards. A coin purse. Simple and efficient, and oh, so easy to sew! We made 17 during the holidays. Really. Order this pattern today. You will be glad you did! BGQ1201

Art Day

Posted by lynnette on Sunday, January 24th, 2010

It’s been another busy week around the Sandbloom household.  There are many tasks in the studio right now.  I am finishing the floor mat – I promised pictures and here they are!  I took one of the front and one of the back so you could see the detail of easing the excess fabric into a wonderfully smooth edge.  I just love this mat!  It's made from wonderful Sweetwater Fabric -the line called Authentic.  Might have to make an extra for my house!  More on the other projects later in the blog……

Laura has had a tough week!  She was out of town last weekend and turned off her computer.  When she came home the darn thing wouldn’t turn on.  Arghhh!  She took it in and the computer tech said “hey, it’s not worth fixing”I share her pain!  We went through this just last year.  So she is shopping today after church.  The business needs her up and running as she is the brains in our business – all orders go through her computer!

My 50th birthday celebrations continue on.  I had a special Art Day in Seattle yesterday with four dear friends.  Karen, Susan, myself, Cathy and Meredith (left to right in the picture) went to several art galleries and saw some wonderful art!  This was my dream day!  A couple of my favorite artists on this trip were Margaretha Bootsma, a fabulous mixed media artist from Vancouver.  Her work is photography mounted on wood and then she gets wild with paint!  I also love the work of Gayle Bard, an artist from Bainbridge Island - her landscapes are incredible!   After filling our heads with art, we went to dinner in the International District at a restaurant called Maneki – if you love Sushi, this is the place!  I had such a great time! We are vowing to try to do this more often.

Now back to the other pursuits in the studio.  Laura has been sewing together a new quilt design we will bring to market.  It’s not a very big quilt but it has spunk and we used Sandy Gervais fabric – love it!  When we have it more complete I will share.  Promise!  It’s sitting on her design wall.  Thinking of a title called Jumping Jax – but we aren’t sure yet, naming patterns sometimes is so easy as the quilt name just pops, other times we struggle.  We try to live with it awhile before we decide.

My studio has a Dutch door and long ago I put Scrabble tiles in the middle pane to spell out “studio”.  I just cleaned and straightened them – I just love how they announce “creativity” to all who enter!

Have I mentioned that I also paint, draw, illustrate, write, think, and play with fabric in my studio?  I am lucky to have this wonderful spot!  Right now it’s kind of messy with the floor mat making in high gear!  But I seem to thrive in chaos!  As long as it’s not too much!  So I’ll probably to a little cleaning and tidying today as I have a lot of goals for the coming week – can’t believe January is winding down!

A very special thank you to dear Sally Frease, “baker extraordinaire” and new title “quilter extraordinaire” who dropped by an incredible cardamom wreath Friday night while I was out with my movie group!  Sally has been a terrific supporter of BGQ – when Laura and I drove to Houston market a few years ago, Sally was our tried and true weather reporter who got us through a few rough weather patches.  Sally, you are the best!  A hug for you!

Have a great week!
